The Christmas season is a time when families often try to spend more time together, enjoy quality bonding with one another and appreciate the company of their loved ones. The perfect way to do this could be with a family vacation to a ski resort destination. Unfortunately, many ski resorts cater primarily to adults, only including children as an afterthought. There are a few resorts, however, that aim to make the experience a wonderful one for adults and children alike. Read on to learn more about five of the top family-oriented ski resorts to visit during the Christmas holidays.

  1. Steamboat Springs, Colorado
This ski resort truly caters to younger visitors and less experienced skiers. While skiing is the main at tion, there are also plenty of other activities, such as sledding and igloo making, to keep children entertained and happy. Skiing classes for children and whole families are available at very reasonable costs, and the entire resort puts on exciting festivities during the Christmas season for children.
  2. Deer Valley, Utah
This is truly a paradise for families at Christmas. From the fireside dining to the horse-drawn sleighs, the Christmas spirit is alive and well in Deer Valley. Children will especially love the private ski classes taught by costumed animal characters and the large arcade full of video games and even a bowling alley. Keep in mind that Deer Valley only allows skiing, so snowboarding families will want to pick a different destination.
  3. Northstar-at-Tahoe, California
In recent years, the ski resort Northstar has made some major changes to create a more family friendly environment for guests. The central plaza has a big Christmas tree lighting ceremony and beautiful decorations throughout winter. There are also great activities like candle making and marshmallow roasting available at no cost to families. The biggest appeal for many families is Northstar’s Parent Predicament ticket, which allows parents to buy just one ticket and trade off on the slopes all day.
  4. Okemo, Vermont
Parents with young children will love that skiing is completely free for all children under the age of 6 at Okemo Resort. Children, on the other hand, will love that there are fun alternatives to skiing that include sledding, alpine roller coasters, tubing and even an ice skating rink for all ages. Many of the accommodation options are located right on the ski routes, and it is less crowded that some larger resorts in Colorado.
  5. Beaver Creek, Colorado
The real beauty of this destination for families is that the area is safe, and parents will feel comfortable letting younger teens ski on their own. There is a special gondola specifically for children, allowing them to enjoy the fun of skiing without the longer runs. Much of the accommodation is ski-in and ski-out, so there is no need to traipse around with skis through the town.

In addition, the area is full of affordable and family friendly restaurants that children and parents will appreciate. Each of these five resorts comes alive during the Christmas season and boasts a range of fun family-friendly activities that parents and children of all ages will enjoy.
