New York ride

New York suffered for a long time with a reputation for being a dirty, dangerous and crime-ridden city. While some people may think The Big Apple still lives up to this reputation, the reality is that today’s New York is clean and one of the safest large cities in the country. The midtown streets are loaded with friendly people of all ages, including families with young children who have discovered that the city is a great family vacation destination.

There is certainly no lack of things to do in New York, in fact there won’t be time to do everything on a typical trip. An entire day could spent at Central Park, walking, seeing the sites, taking a carriage ride, and you might find at the end of the day that you hadn’t managed to cover it all. Midtown offers shopping, museums, and of course, Broadway Shows. Popular, long-running shows like “Wicked” and “The Lion King” are family friendly. For shopping, kids and kids at heart will love the Toys R Us in Times Square. Featuring a Ferris wheel in the store and a giant Barbie dollhouse, the store is a must-see. The Hershey Store has awesome collectibles and Hershey products. M&M’s World is a two-floor wonder with collectibles, clothing, and giant M&M dispensers that let you mix and match flavors and colors. Nintendo World in Rockefeller Plaza has the latest Nintendo equipment and games, plus clothing and collectibles. The second floor features a mini-museum of classic Nintendo gaming devices. You can do all this and more without even leaving midtown.

New York’s major tourist attractions are as popular as ever: the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and the Top of The Rock. The American Museum of Natural History is great for kids and adults alike, and for a free museum experience, you can head downtown to the National Museum of the American Indian.

Though the city is large and a bit overwhelming at first glance, getting around midtown is actually easy because of the grid system. All the streets and avenues are numbered, making it actually difficult to get lost! New York is a walking city, with mostly flat streets, so there’s not a lot of walking uphill. For longer distances you can take a cab, bus, or the subway. The subways are safe and clean, and the cheapest way to travel, except on foot.

Any worries about the safety of New York can be cast aside with a little research. It consistently rates as one of the safest large cities in the country. Visit New York and see for yourself how wonderful it is.
