Eyeing up a family trip to California? If so, why not take your kids to Sacramento? With its vast array of play parks, kid-friendly museums, animal sanctuaries, and neighborhood joints, there are just so many fun things awaiting you and your family to see and do in the Californian capital—that one weekend might not be enough!

Sprawling at the junction of the Sacramento and American Rivers, the Sac-town is home to numerous places that offer a perfect environment for kids to come and play. Here are some of the exciting activities that you and your kids can’t miss out on in the city:

Rove around the Sacramento and American Rivers

Whether you want to go dining, fishing, boating, rafting, or simply frolicking, these majestic waterways offer all sorts of adventure that would complete your idea of fun. Take your kids to the Fair Oaks Bridge where you can throw dry leaves into the American River; create bonding moments with them while floating in a raft passing underneath the Guy West Bridge; or bring them to the Sacramento River Water Intake Facility, where they can play by the fountain.

Take a Stroll around Fairytale Town in William Land Park

A play park where fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters come to life, William Land Park’s Fairytale Town will enthrall you and your youngsters with its numerous whimsical spectacles. Humpty Dumpty will greet you with warm hospitality at the entrance.

Every July, the park invites kids of all ages to come and swim in their “lazy river,” and be challenged to enter King Arthur’s Castle with his staff members who are heavily armed with water weapons. Mom and dad, make sure you don’t sneak in just by yourselves. You have to bring your kiddos with you!

Get an Up-Close Encounter with the Animals at Folsom Zoo Sanctuary

Of course, a family getaway won’t be complete without a trip to the zoo. Take your little darlings to see the lions, bears, tigers, foxes, bobcats and coyotes at Folsom Zoo Sanctuary. Home to animals that had been rejected, orphaned, injured and endangered for extinction, the zoo aims to teach the visitors the value of responsible human behavior towards animals.

Dine at a Neighborhood Joint

The best way to end a long day is to get some sumptuous graze in any of Sacramento’s neighborhood joints. Try Squeeze Inn, Pancake Circus, Zelda’s specialties, if you want affordable food that’s tasty enough to make you forget your name! If you want mouth-watering baked goodies, delicious Panini’s, and hearty soups, you can never go wrong with Broadway Bakery Café. It is located in the Broadway Building itself, near UC Davis Medical Center.

Sacramento is no doubt a treasure trove of child-friendly activities and wonderful outdoor attractions that even the whole family can enjoy. Despite being a mercantile metropolis, Sacramento beckons parents and children from around the world to come and spend special bonding moments while being mesmerized with its awe-inspiring beauty.
